Haven't posted here in a while, but I'll just drop a few lines regarding the season finale of season 1 of BSG.
This was an awesome episode. Kara/Starbuck goes back to Caprica to obtain the arrow of Apollo for the President who believes it is the key to finding Earth. She does this against Adama's orders, though, primarily because she now believes that Adama lied to her about the quest for finding earth. Adama is seriously ticked off about this, mainly because he was planning on using the captured Cylon raider to deliver a nuke into the loading bay of a Cylon basestar, but secondly because starbuck did this at the urging of the president. And so, we see what amounts to a military coup. Adama sends troops over to colonial one and they arrest the president (of course, Captain Adama is still having that "can't choose sides" problem and he goes from being on the strike team to being under arrest). I have to admit, it was a little satisfying to see the president thrown into the pokey. But a coup? What does that say about Adama? The same thing that his "quest for earth" says? That he'll just say what's convenient, or tolerate a civilian government so long as it keeps everyone out of his hair. Adama said to the president in a prior episode that he is a patriot. I'm sure he is. But he may be a potential dictator as well. Just remember, there were few to zero dictators in history who did not have the idea that they were trying to help their people.
Back to the episode, though. Since starbuck has taken the cylon raider, adama must now rely on boomer to deliver the nuke in a colonial raptor fitted with a cylon transponder. She does this...but while on board the cylon basestar, she is confronted with several sharons/boomers. Meanwhile, back on Caprica, starbuck finds the arrow, has the crap beaten out of her by a copy of number 6, manages to kill this particular number six, finds Helo, and also sees----Boomer! She immediately realizes that boomer is a cylon and tries to kill her. Helo, however, implores starbuck not to kill boomer because----boomer is pregnant! Which, of course, is too too much for starbuck to handle and she starts to sob.
The episode wraps up with boomer being congratulated by adama for carrying off the mission well (the cylon basestar blowed up real good). But as he is about to shake boomer's hand, she pulls out a pistol and guts him with it.
Incredible ending to the first season.
